Well the Philosopher's Stone is a well known (sorta) legend from our real history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosopher's_stone

A Sorcerer's Stone is completely fictitious. Even the wiki entry redirects to Philosopher's Stone.

I forget though if there was actually any time where it was important whether the stone came from a philosopher or a sorcerer in particular.

My idea was that Philosophy, logic, reasoning, and the like are so foreign to most Americans as to be almost akin to magic. Because of this, the suits releasing the book thought the title change to be nothing more than swapping synonyms.

What Grundy said, except it also applied to the book that was published years before the movie ever came out. Pretty goddamned ridiculous if you ask me.

Goon, from what I can guess it probably comes down to the studio thinking American's are too dumb to know what a philosopher's stone is and thinking it's a movie about wizard's so use the word sorcerer instead.

Dave - question: why the hell was it called Sorcerers Stone in the US instead of Philosophers Stone? I just found out that for that movie anytime someone said "philosopher's" they reshot the scene saying "Sorcerer's" for the US and the US only. why bother?

Moon was a great movie, you guys really got to revisit it in a few months so we could get down bringing up spoilers.

I can't wait to see In the Loop, if shit goes good I should be seeing it some time next month. I was going to see Thirst next week but for some fucking reason the theater took it off its Coming Soon list.

I saw Moon for the second time yesterday. It's just as good if not better, the subtleties are amazing. Didnt notice the first time one of Sam's plants is named Ripley :P
