..it also doesnt matter to me if its a BIG problem. A problem is a problem, and they've devoted to their lives to a problem they could conceivably make an actual impact with.

I don't think you can call him a kook at all over that. I mean its clear that the dolphin died on him, and even if you want to believe he read too much into it, the fact is it spurred him to help the dolphins and his team indeed is going after that Taiji group for very good rational reasons that go beyond treehugging bullshit or spiritual experiences.

And that guy really isn't even the main documentary subject, he's maybe the Danny Ocean of the team, but he's still just one part of the team.

Meh, they TOTALLY lost me at the "dolphin-suicide" point. It's hard for me to believe in the cause when the leader (and main documentary subject) is a complete kook, and The Cove is all about him and the cause. It's well-made as docs go, I admit. And I did enjoy it, but don't buy the cause completely as as big of a problem as the filmmakers would have liked, I'm sure.

I thought Food Inc and SuperSize Me for example had much more to say, said it better and more even-handed, and without leaning on any kookiness.

I wasnt in any rush to see it myself, and still wouldnt call it a must see. But I think the vast majority of people who see it will enjoy it, it doesnt preach to the choir like I expected it would. They make no bones about who they are and they do the 'take action' credits, but otherwise they are aware they are making a film and that they have some obligations to entertain, hence the clever Oceans Eleven type plotting.

saw the Cove. I dont think anything hinges on your belief that a dolphin can commit suicide whatsoever. All thats important is that that guy believes it, that his commitment to his activism is sincere.

@Mark In my defense, it was about 3am at that point in the recording.

Finally a hater for ME! Welcome. I look forward to your future criticisms.

"Your conversation about The Cove was horrible."

Unless you can refute anything said specifically, I'm going to treat this as a troll comment. Only one person on this podcast even saw the movie, so address them to him if that's what your beef is about.
